First Event -Trailering is an Adventure
Forte hesitated to go down the ramp, rammed her front hooves into the floor to look. The young mare came out of the trailer- eyes and nostrils white open and her ears directed changing direction every second. Last time someone packed her in a trailer she ended up first in the air and then in a completely different climate, namely the cold rainy north of Europe and now that she just had adjusted she was on a plane again and as she came out it was warm out there like where she was born, but the air was of a strange dry quality and still there was a strange rotten scent, that she knew from her time in Florida. Confused and irritated she circled around her handler and backed off, trying to get back into the trailer. She decided she wouldn't go down without a fight Forte pranced up the ramp until the leadline hung straight and pulled at the padded halter - Forte, doing her name justice - pulled back with all her power and stomped until she was almost back in the trailer with her tail. From her watchpost at the upper ramp she whinnied, looking like she was the conquerer of the world and very pleased with herself.

A little crowd had gathered around the scene, which looked somehow very odd, like a raging teenager having a hysteric episode and an adult, who just calmly endures the rage and waits until storm in Fortes head would clear up.

Her handler who was holding her leadrope stoically, but when he tried to grab her halter, she very early evaded to the side. He stepped up higher on the ramp, attempting to grab the halter again on the other side, but she swung her hindend around to the left, making a thundering sound with her hooves. Forte knew these, on the pasture the kids always played "Catch Me" with the foals. The nasty human shortened the lead rope and after a little pause directed his hand towards her head and like the expert player she was Forte immediately winded her butt to the opposite side and retreated as far as the side fencing of the ramp would let her. The handler tried the same side again and she easily got away before he even touched the halter. Forte was so consumed by the "play" that she pretty much forgot to hold position on the upper part of the ramp and step by step the mean bearded guy directed her around and around and step by step: down. For the last centimeters he apporached her and much more swiftly as in their "game" he shoved her off the end of ramp. The crowd chuckled a bit as the ramp was shut and Forte stood next to the trailer, goggling at the closed door in astonishment as she had not decided to leave the trailer and somehow she was now outside. Her handler laughed very slightly, not more than a little snorting here and then.

The little mare pumped air into her flanks and upsetly snorted into the handlers face. RE-VENGE and the spectactors laughed out loud.

And revenge came in the showring. Her handler couldn't always watch out. And so she was seen proudly trotting through the ring without her handler in in-hand halter class. Catch me, if you can.
